Those Who Sacrifice Are Rare - Issue 34 - 6th November 2022
Unfortunately, when we master the art of sacrifice, we are inducted into a rather small community. Those who apply the art of sacrifice to their lives daily are the minority. The majority of humans, tragically, will become lost and disillusioned by the world around them, will supplement this loss with highly dopaminergic activities and drugs and then wonder why they feel so pessimistic about the world. This will only worsen as technology advances, comfort becomes more abundant, sugar, fat and alcohol become more fabricated and the need to struggle lessens. Thus, those of us who can must start sacrificing now. The sooner we can master sacrifice, the sooner we can become fulfilled individuals, ready to help those that are trapped in the talons of modernity realise this ancient truth.
The sooner we can master sacrifice, the sooner we can become fulfilled individuals
Sacrifice is difficult in itself, but the nature of sacrifice in relation to society means that it will be that much more difficult as we sacrifice alone. We mustn’t expect those surrounding us to sacrifice just as we do. We must accept that each and every one of us have had unbelievably unique experiences leading up to the present and therefore we must acknowledge that sacrificing will be more difficult for some compared to others. We must expect ridicule. Those around us may find this adventure of sacrifice an unwise pursuit and they may even attempt to stop you in your tracks, just like the many obstacles and mythological creatures that Bilbo must face on his route towards Smaug. Therefore, a further sacrifice we must make is that of fitting in with our fellow humans. Humans are social and tribal creatures making this all themore difficult. However, the good news is that this venture may not be a solo one. Although the community of those who have mastered sacrifice is limited, it is not hopeless. You may just find a small group of dwarves who have mastered the art of sacrifice and who see your adventure as worthy.
The easy route is the route travelled most. The safe route. We know what to expect. We just follow the herd, without any true contemplation. We see this in modern life. Social media trends show us this easy route. When trends are created, a herd of humans follow one another without any contemplation in order to fit in. Those around us follow the conventional routes of life filled with mortgages, debt, needless purchases and mediocre occupations. So, post something different on your Instagram, venture outside the safe parameters of tourists spots towards the unexpected gems that many cities hold, wear clothing that’s one of a kind and embrace the unpredictably of creative endeavours that no one else is embracing.
Keep On Struggling

“An updated version of the classic anthology series featuring various tales of science fiction, mystery, and horror.” This remake, co-created by Jordan Peele, of the classic TV show from the late 50s/early 60s is a great watch with plenty of mind blowing themes. The first two episodes feature a comedian who has the power to make people disappear by telling jokes about them and a journalist who finds himself on a doomed flight attempting to stop thedeaths of the passengers with the help of a future-reading podcast. Quote to Ponder
All courses of action are risky, so prudence is not in avoiding danger (it's impossible), but calculating risk and acting decisively. Make mistakes of ambition and not mistakes of sloth. Develop thestrength to do bold things, not thestrength to suffer - Niccolò Machiavelli
