The Risks of Life - Issue 48 - 12th February 2023
It seems counterintuitive that staying safe, within the confines of a mortgaged house, working a sensible, well-payed job carries little risk with a moderate-level of reward, however this is a lie we use to convince ourselves of sensibility. The truth is that when we settle and sacrifice adventure and theunknown, we are risking our own fulfilment, which we can all agree is vitally important. The risk of not fulfilling our potential is huge. After all there is only one life and so settling for mediocre is actually the biggest and most significant risk we could possibly take.
The risks that come with living a moderate life are considerable
Investors study the risk and reward ratios of particular investments. Usually the shares that carry the biggest possibility of reward come with an equally considerable risk, however the shares that have a moderate reward possibility come with less risk. This is similar to life in that when we settle for a moderate life, the likely rewards are also moderate. Where life differs is that the risks that come with living a moderate life are considerable. So we are risking a lot and gaining little. Whereas when we risk big for the potential of big rewards, we are more likely to be rewarded big. So the choice ultimately comes down to two options: risk big by settling and gaining little or risk big by chasing a dream and possibly gaining big. It’s the choice between staring at a computer screen for eight hours a day and the adventure of a lifetime.
With this in mind, why would we ever choose the former? There’s one life. We all have an expiration date. Do we really want to approach that date with the knowledge that we settled and lost? Is it not better to approach that date with either the knowledge that we sacrificed safety and comfort for thepossibility of an adventurous life and failed or the much more likely and palatable knowledge that we sacrificed safety and comfort for the possibility of an adventurous life and actually achieved it?

New Venture I’m Embarking On
My partner Alex and I recently took part in a wedding photoshoot in which we were models for the day. We spent the day at Melville Castle, wearing various outfits, posing in various situations, including a ceremony. We had a lot of fun and were told to pursue this line of work by those involved, so we decided to do just that. We’ve set up an Instagram account and are now looking for new opportunities. We originally took part in the shoot as a favour and just for a fun day, but it proved to be much more than that and we’re hoping that it will open some doors we weren’t even aware were there.
Follow our account below.
Wedding Suppliers & Creatives We’d Recommend
On the subject of the photoshoot, the suppliers and creative individuals that were involved were extremely professional and kind throughout. I was naively surprised by how much planning and suppliers are required for a beautiful wedding. So, if you’re planning a wedding or know of someone who is, we can’t recommend these people enough. The below list includes the Instagram accounts for everyone involved. You can also follow the top two (photographer and content creation) to see the result of our wedding photoshoot.
